So, I wanted to start a new thread about my favorite MMORPG I have ever played. I want to hear about your guys opinion of the game and how you would compare the 10 year franchise to a game like Dungeons and Dragons.

I played WoW for a long time, I leveled a Rouge up to 85 but had a really tough time getting into end game content. I would talk to Mack though he is like the WoW guru.

I have been playing WoW for almost a little bit longer than three years now, I will talk to Mack about his opinion of the comparison of DnD and WoW. Thanks Bryan!

Of course man! I highly recommend 4th Ed. DnD to you. It has a of ton the same feelings WoW does in a TTRPG system

I have played ALL the WoW. I was a big fan of Warcraft 3 when it was new, but I was late to the ball on the mmo (I was kind of reluctant to play games with people I didn't know). But, I got in before the end of vanilla, and have been having a great time ever since. I'm a big one for the theorycrafting (the process of figuring out the maths behind class and raid mechanics). Then again, I have a friend who's all about the auction house. Myself, I have a lvl capped shaman (elemental shaman has been my class and spec for 3 expansions now). What do you play?
Also, Byran's right: 4th Ed DnD is totally WoW the board game. The thing about WoW vs DnD is that WoW forces you into its world, its lore, its fluff. There isn't any other story to tell, no way to make it your own, really. Playing WoW is really an exercise in power creep with a fixed story. There's always tougher mobs to down, better gear to get. If you like the story, and you like that experience, it can be some of the most productive entertainment time and money you can spend. I still play, but I also feel the need to reach out to other mediums.

I agree that WoW is a huge game with a fixed lore and particular perimeters. I play a Protection Paladin on the Horde, and I have enjoyed the game for a long time now. I feel like the cataclysm buffed the crap out of all of us. I think maybe they should of taken the power leveling down a few notches. People on World of Warcraft can level up insanely fast with BoAs and rested experience.

I can see it being boring at that point, but I have yet to reach that point.

Here come the Pandas!
The new WoW patch is out, and I logged onto my lvl 85 Warrior to see what was up. The new talent system is structured in a very similar way to the one Diablo III uses, which streamlines your role more than the old system of just allocating dozens of points into a mixture of passive/active abilities for your class.
I've only been able to play around on the Target Dummies in Stormwind so far but it seems like there is really no bad route to go with these. Sure, there will be optimal combinations of abilities that all the raiders/PvPers will use eventually but I really want to try out a few different spell combinations.
I haven't looked at the other classes, so definitely feel free to share your thoughts on this massive change.

I played WoW on & off from the end of vanilla to Cataclysm. I played WC3 beforehand & liked the story and especially the orcs after Thrall brought them back to their honorable roots.
I never liked the red vs blue story element that seems to exist solely for the purpose of promoting PVP; I would've thought factions to be more dynamic like Everquest was, especially considering WC3's story. I also think it's interesting that every person I've talked to from the Alliance calls the Horde the 'bad guys', but I don't think any faction as a whole can claim that title; instead each side has villains & closed-minded beings that keep a pointless conflict alive. Then in Cataclysm they put the biggest jerk in charge f the orcs & Horde.
Now, even though they finally brought out my favorite archetype, the monk/unarmed fighter, I don't think I'm going to play again, although I was more tempted when I heard of your guild, even though I'm Horde. I would really like to see one server that's an alternate dimension where the two factions get along peacefully: you know, have the two wise people, Thrall & Jaina, heeded more.
A big reason I'm probably not going back is I like SWTOR better. I think the story is better, & that's the biggest appeal of games for me. I like how each class has it's own story & I still have fun making new characters because each play-through is different. In WoW once you've seen it, every character on that faction is the same. I'm also spoiled by the gameplay in SWTOR for in the low levels combat is way more exciting than auto-attacking boars with one special move every 6 seconds.
I don't suppose you're going to have a SWTOR guild are you?
