Anybody have other examples of fantasy and/or magic that either don't fit with the profiles we discussed, or things that cross into so many different types that they should be categorized separately?

Great podcast guys!
I'm listening while at work, so I don't always catch everything, but did you mention Psionics? Sure, sure, that's not always considered "magical" but it's close enough to it to bring up.
Also, you were discussing a race of people in 3.5 that had the runes above their heads, and someone said Truespeakers. I believe he was referring to the Illumians (from Races of Destiny) who were said to be infused with the power of true language. I'm familiar with them because I used them as antagonists in my home brew game for years.

Sure, sure, that's not always considered "magical" but it's close enough to it to bring up. Thanks, and welcome. Regarding Psionics, you're right, we probably should have at least given an honorable mention, I didn't include that particular set of powers in the magic overview because I think it's widely regarded as it's own type of power, more akin to supers. (Maybe that's why I forgot, hehe) Also, I believe it's such a polarizing topic, with so many lovers and haters, maybe it should be in an episode on it's own, lumped in with supers, or maybe as part of a supernatural episode. Lemme know what you guys think!

Yeah, in a setting in which Psionics are a fully integrated thing, they can be as separate from magic as martial abilities. Not that you can't run Psions like freaks or oddities, or design a setting where there are different power sources for a group of effects collectively called magic (pretty much already describes the relationship between arcane and divine, so though I don't typically think of Psionics in the same vein, no reason it can't be)...
And yeah, totally Illumians: Races of Destiny gave them a whole load of history and introduced a pretty heavy new concept, but I'm a fluff guy (I like the part in horror movies where they explain the bad guy's origin and weaknesses), so they really stuck with me. Never got to use any of the fluff as a plot hook, but I did have that weird guy with the weird word thing running around.

When you were talking about dark fantasy the first thing that popped into my head was Dragon Age.
I'm enjoying your podcasts so far guys, thanks!
